چکیده

I . Twenty pigs were rcared to a weight of 90 kg on various dietary regimens so that their lipid content varied from 16 to 38%. They were injected intravenously with 400pCi of ‘*KCI. T h e animals were killed 28 h after injection and their contents of water, lipid, sodium and potassium were determined. 2. The specific activity of plasma reached equilibrium 1-12 h after injection, that of urine not until 20 h after. 3. Losses of activity in urine, faeces and gut contents in the 24 h after injection amounted to 3.1, 0.3 and 1 .5 :h of the injected dose, respectively. 4. Total body K was more accurately estimated from urine specific activity than from plasma specific activity. 5. Exchangeable K, estimated from urine specific activity Kec,), was highly correlated with the weight of fat-free tissue (I = 0.93), the residual standard deviation of the regression being 1.8 kg fat-free tissue. 6. Percentage extractable fat was equally well correlated with Kec,, (r = -0.92).

Acute alterations of body composition after open intracardiac operations.

The body composition of patients with heart disease is acutely altered by surgical intervention. Interrelations and causes of the alterations have not been clear. Twenty patients were studied preoperatively and again 2 to 4 days after open intracardiac operations. In nine, measurements were made of the volumes of total body water, extracellular water, plasma, and red cells, and of the amounts o...

Regression of body compositional abnormalities of heart failure after intracardiac operations.

SUMMARY Alterations in body composition are present in patients with heart disease and conges-tive heart failure, and additional changes occur acutely after corrective surgery. The reversibility and time course of reversion to normal body composition have not been demonstrated. Nine patients were studied preoperatively and 2 to 4 weeks and 6 to 12 mo postoperatively. Measurements were made, usi...

Potassium reserves in soils with arid and semi-arid climate in southern Iran: a perspective based on potassium fixation

ABSTRACT- The present research was conducted to study K forms and fixation in soils of southern Iran (Hormozgan Province) with aridic and aridic-ustic regimes and to address the relations between soil mineralogy and potassium forms. Thirteen surface soil samples (0-25 cm) were collected from different regions and analyzed in laboratory. Illite and feldspar and mica are the major clay and soil m...

Effect of crop rotation on the changes of potassium forms and clay minerals under Mediterranean climatic condition

ABSTRACT-The influence of intensive crop rotation on the distribution of potassium forms and clay mineralogy was assessed under a Mediterranean condition in the Piranshar region, northwest of Iran. For this purpose, surface soil samples in relation to six soil sub-groups from crop rotationfiled (sugar beet, wheat, pea, and barley) over five decades and the adjacent uncultivated lands were descr...
